Uniqlo opens Friday at Westchester's Ridge Hill shopping center
Uniqlo, a Japanese clothing chain known for stocking quality staples at reasonable prices is opening a new location at Westchester’s Ridge Hill shopping complex on Friday.
Featuring brightly colored skinny jeans and leggings, cashmere crewneck sweaters and patterned broadcloth shirts, the chain, which features women’s, men’s and children’s clothing and accessories, is expanding to New York City's suburbs. A 24,000-square-foot space opened at West Nyack’s Palisades Center mall in March, and both new branches are expected to create 100 jobs each.
As part of the opening weekend festivities, some items will be offered at discounted prices, plus traditional Japanese drummers will perform and 500 tote bags will be given out each day to the first shoppers to spend $50 or more. There will also be free parking during the first week (with validation) and a chance for customers to win a $1,000 shopping spree.
Uniqlo, which opened its first store in Hiroshima in 1984, operates three stores in New York City, one at the Garden State Plaza in New Jersey. The U.S. flagship store is in San Francisco.
The Ridge Hill location (One Ridge Hill Blvd., Yonkers; 877-486-4756; www.uniqlo.com) will open at 10 a.m. April 19. The shopping center also features the region’s only Legoland Discovery Center, plus an Apple Store and a number of dining options.
