It's a chance to follow in the footsteps of an "American Idol" contestant.
Pia Toscano, 22, of Howard Beach, who is among the remaining competitors on Season 10 of "American Idol," won the team's annual "anthem search" and sung at a Mets game in 2008.
The first 100 people to arrive at the 11 a.m. event will be guaranteed an audition. Participants sing a 30- to 60-second song of their choice as long as it is not the national anthem. Singers must perform a cappella, though instrumental auditions are allowed. The audition is free and open to all ages, but those under 18 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.
"Last year there were around 150, so this year it should be the same," Mets spokeswoman Nicole Chayet said.
In the weeks ahead, the finalists will advance to the final audition round, where they will be judged on their singing or playing of the national anthem.
Chayet said there's no set number of winners. Those chosen will sing the national anthem before a game this season, she said.
