MINEOLA - The Nassau Legislature approved the 2013 budget along party lines today.
The 10-9 vote, will all 9 Democrats voting against it, approves a $2.8 billion budget that does not raise property taxes but does increase fees charged for numerous services.
Under the budget, the county will charge $500 for a two-year licensing of contractors. It also increases fees for services varying from recording mortgages to swimming lessons.
The Democrats say the new budget is too dependant on borrowing to keep the county afloat.
County Executive Ed Mangano (R-Nassau) and the Nassau County Interim Finance Authority must still both sign off on the budget.
