Police are investigating separate attacks on two women in Manhattan's Union Square.
The first attack happened just after 7:30 p.m. Monday in Union Square Park.
Police say a 28-year-old woman noticed a man looking at her. Police say the man then pulled a hammer out of a bag and struck the woman on the head.photosRecent NYC mug shotsDataNYC crime rates
The second attack happened about 10 minutes later on West 17th Street between Fifth and Sixth avenues. Police say a 33 year-old woman was struck from behind and received a scalp wound.
Police say both women were hospitalized with non-life threatening injuries.
There have been no arrests.
