Newburgh Brewing Company
88 S. Colden St. Newburgh, NY 845-561-2337
Next to what was once George Washington’s military headquarters, the Newburgh Brewing Company fills four floors of a 22,000 square-foot, 160-year-old brick warehouse that overlooks the Hudson River. Focusing on beer with a modest alcohol content (about 4 or 5 percent) and big flavor, the brewery uses a 20-barrel system to distribute about 6,000 standard kegs of beer on an annual basis. The facility’s fourth-floor taproom pairs brewmaster-chef Christopher Basso’s beers with a small menu of sausages, handmade pretzels, burgers and other traditional pub grub in the a casual, beer-hall setting.
There are four craft brews on tap, available by the pint or in takeaway growlers: a Cream Ale, Newburgh Saison, Newburgh Peat Smoked Stout and a Brown Ale, made in the traditional English style as an homage to the brewery’s regional history. The taproom will also feature various local wines. Trivia nights are held Wednesdays at 7 p.m. -Chris SericoHours: Mon-Tu, Th: closed; Wed: 4-9 p.m.; Fri: 4-11 p.m.; Sat: 1-10 p.m.; Sun: 1-8 p.m.
