NY-based unit taking part in US South Pole mission

SCOTIA, N.Y. (AP) — Members of an upstate New York-based Air National Guard unit are headed to the South Pole.

The 109th Airlift Wing based at the Stratton Air National Guard Base in Schenectady (skeh-NEHK'-ta-dee) County is taking part in the U.S. military's annual Operation Deep Freeze mission.
