Police departments were on alert following Friday's shooting in Newtown.

NORWALK - Police departments across the state were on alert today after the school shooting in Newtown.

Norwalk police officers set up patrols outside city schools for part of the afternoon, as did officers in other communities.

Parents say they want to speak with authorities to ensure that safety measures are in place to prevent similar tragedies in the future.
