Red Hat on the River
1 Bridge St. Irvington, NY 914-591-5888
With one of the more picturesque settings along the Hudson River facing the northern Palisades with views from Manhattan to the Tappan Zee Bridge and beyond Red Hat on the River is an ideal spot for warm-weather dining. Umbrella shaded tables are near the water, and theres a fabulous rooftop cocktail lounge. The restaurant is housed in a century-old brick building with soaring ceilings and two-story, white-framed windows. A local assemblage is often gathered at the horseshoe-shaped bar.
The classic bistro fare with some contemporary twists is well-turned out, from moules frites, braised short ribs with turnip puree and seared sea scallops with a red wine and endive marmalade. Earnest servers keep cool under often trying conditions.-Bryan MillerHours: Mon-Th: 12 p.m.-3 p.m., 5 p.m.-9:30 p.m.; Fri: 12 p.m.-3 p.m., 5 p.m.-11 p.m.; Sat: 5 p.m.-11 p.m.; Sun: 12 p.m.-8 p.m.
