New fitness brand takes yoga back to its roots
Start working on your headstands and perfecting that chair pose, because a fashionable new fitness brand has come to town . . . and it's serious about yoga.
Rishi Bali, a former Goldman Sachs executive who grew up immersed in the practice in India, thinks his company has something high-end brands such as Athleta and Lululemon don't.
Bali launched Yoga Smoga on Thursday, debuting with a collection of sculpting sports bras, $49; tanks that are guaranteed not to rise from the hips, $55 ("You would think there's a magnetic force controlling it, but really it's just great design,” the website says), and three types of pants, $96-109.
The fabric used, Aurum, is unique to Yoga Smoga and is a blend of Supplex and Lycra. It's meant to absorb sweat and stretch with the body's movements.
The collection is available online at yogasmoga.com, and it also includes yoga flops for getting to and from class, $22; mats, $54; antibacterial towels, $36 and a Namaskar bracelet for $10, a colorful piece woven in the Himalayas that will benefit charities in the region.
