Hurricane Sandy claimed at least one life in Westchester County at around 9 p.m. on Monday night when a driver hit a tree and died on the Sprain Brook Parkway in Yonkers, News 12 reported. Yonkers and Fairview police and firefighters responded to the accident. The identity of the driver was unclear, but police said the car might have been sideswiped before striking a tree and hurling the driver out of the car. They were using infrared technology to determine whether a passenger from the car might have also been ejected from the vehicle.
In a second fatality on Monday night, a Pearl River man, 56, died when a tree struck his house. News12 is reporting that the man's wife, suffered a serious head injury and is currently in critical condition. Two of the couple's daughters suffered injuries and are in serious condition. A third daughter suffered minor injuries.
News12 is also reporting that 2 young boys have been killed after a tree fell onto their home on Bonniview Avenue in North Salem.
