Unusual sighting: Turkeys in Yonkers
Making reporters write stories about my commute from Pearl River to Yonkers is just part of the editor gig.
As the hoary journalism maxim goes: "News is what happens to your editor on her way to work."
Reporter John Dyer just told me, "Those are stories I don't like to get."
So instead of asking Dyer, who's working with me this Sunday, to write 900 words by 3 p.m. on the explosion of unusual wildlife in NYC's northern suburbs, I'll just share these photos of turkeys standing outside 6 Executive Plaza this morning.
I sometimes see turkeys in Rockland County and I've seen them in Harrison, but I've never seen them in Yonkers before.
Dyer, who lives in Hastings-on-Hudson, says he sees them off the side of the Saw Mill River Parkway frequently. I never have and I drive it nearly every day.
The four birds I saw this morning stood about 3 1/2 feet tall and looked healthy.
Yonkers must suit them.
