Where to get an Irish breakfast

Irish breakfasts are heavy on tradition and huge in scope. Eggs, rashers of bacon, sausages, and on and on,and on. Here are some of our favorite places, which will be serving it up on a great day for the Irish.

O'Neill's. They start serving a traditional Irish breakfast at 7 am: scrambled eggs, sausages, bacon, home fries. And, whatever you do, don't diss 'Danny Boy' here. To celebrate the song, Staunton has organized a Danny Boy Special for St Patrick's Day, featuring the Irish actor and writer Malachy McCourt."Malachy literally wrote the book on Danny Boy, so we're delighted that he's coming to sing Danny Boy." Staunton is also offering a free Irish breakfast (between 8:00 am and 9:00 am) to any patrons whocan sing a verse from Danny Boy. "We have to take a stand," he said. Tir na nog. Irish breakfasts are available from 7 to 11am on the big day at this West side hangout. It's all the usual, plus beans, potatoes, and toast. Reservations required. (5 Penn Plaza; 212-630-0249)

The Fitz. Breakfast at this hotel dining room includes, eggs, steak, black and white pudings, and toast, $15; serving from 7 AM. (Reservations required; 687 Lexington, at the Fitzpatrick Hotel; 212-784-2560)

The Half King starts serving Irish breakfast at 11. The menu includes poached eggs, roasted tomatoes, Irish bacon, sausages, black and white pudding, beans and home fries, all for $13. (505 West 23rd Street; 212-462-4300)

Connolly's Pub does everyone better with a free breakfast in the restaurant, just steps off the parade route. Only thing is, you have to get up early to get it: Breakfast is served between 6 and 9 am; after that, it's corned beef, fish and chips, and other Irish specialties -- but you have to pay for those. McCormack's Pub serves a traditional Irish breakfast starting at 9 am. (365 3rd Avenue; 212-683-0911)

AND IF YOU WANT TO STAY HOME ...

Want an Irish breakfast but want to stay out of the pubs? Some people won't like this, but the easiest place to get the makings of a classic Irish breakfast is the very British Myers of Keswick grocery in the Village.
