Eleanor Madison Wright, a longtime Centerport resident, has died at an assisted living facility in Norton, Mass., family members said. She was 99.
Born in Brooklyn on Nov. 6, 1908, Wright lived with her late husband, Howard Leslie Wright, a mason, in Centerport. They were married on Aug. 10, 1930.
In 1995, Wright relocated to Tauton, Mass., and five years ago she moved into the assisted living complex, the Daggett-Crandall-Newcomb Home, said her niece, Carolyn Silagy, of Westchester. She died Thursday.
"She was a wonderful family person," said her niece. "She always had time for people who wanted to talk."
Wright, who was a homemaker, belonged to the Centerport Methodist Church, and was a longtime member of the Centerport Garden Club and historian of the Huntington chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star, a fraternal organization.
She was predeceased by her daughter, Joan Stimson, who died in 1977.
Funeral services and burial, which will take place in August in Bethpage, are private. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Resident Activities Fund of Daggett-Crandall-Newcomb Home, located at 55 Newland St., Norton, MA. 02766.
In addition to her niece, Wright is survived by a granddaughter and two great-grandchildren.
