Lighthouse will add heavy traffic
One of the features of the Lighthouse project is 17,211 parking spots ["Public's chance to shed light," News, April 25].
Has anyone considered the impact this additional traffic will have on the adjacent roadways and the Meadowbrook Parkway? The area around the Coliseum is already overburdened. Developers of the Lighthouse need to address this very important issue and come up with a solution if they expect the project to be approved.

Suffolk pumps are mostly fine
In response to "Glitch can fuel up gas prices" [News, April 25]: The problem of defective check valves in gasoline dispensers is not "hard to diagnose" and is neither "mostly ignored" nor "common." Of the thousands of tests on gasoline dispensers in Suffolk County in 2007, defective check valves were found in fewer than 1 percent of the dispensers tested.
It is possible, but not likely, that worn-out check valves could go "unnoticed for months." Too many consumers would not put up with a pump "jumping" to 10 or more cents before flow of gasoline started and most of our retailers would get the problem fixed as soon as they notice it. Our office depends on consumers to be our "eyes and ears" in the marketplace and report possible problems. All weighing and measuring devices (scales, gasoline pumps, home heating oil meters and propane meters) are tested at least once per year, with many tested more than that. All complaints received concerning in-accurate gasoline pumps are promptly investigated.

Ban battle of the sexes on track
When will the thoroughbred horse racing industry finally realize that it is not a good idea to run a filly against colts ["Filly's fate raises issues," News, May 5]? How many times must we watch another beautiful filly give her life to satisfy her owner's greed? No owner who truly loves the sport should ever run their filly against colts. As a racing enthusiast, I think these instances ruin a sport that is already in trouble. I implore racing to ban the practice of running fillies and colts in the same race. Racing gains nothing by condoning this practice.

No more Miley
Another slow news day? Just who is the audience for the Miley Cyrus photographs in the adult magazine, Vanity Fair ["Miley mum at concert about photo," News, May 5]? If not for the media, this would not have been even a blip on the radar of her fan base. If Jodie Foster as a child actor survived acting in an R-rated movie, surely Miley will survive being in an R-rated photo. End of story; let's move on to something more important.

Eye Lyme disease
In your article on Lyme disease, you quote Suffolk County Legis. Ed Romaine as pointing out, "We have literally hundreds of cases of tickborne diseases, many of which go undiagnosed" ["New look at Lyme disease guidelines," News, May 3].
But, you note, mainstream medicine dismisses most long-term antibiotic therapy as potentially dangerous, following guidelines issued by a group of specialists, while offering nothing in its place.
If allowed to continue, this would mean the denial of help to many thousands of chronically ill patients. Impartial funding of a large-scale study of Lyme disease and its cure is clearly called for. The lives of a multitude of sufferers are at stake.
