Police are seeking the public's help in finding the driver of a car that they said left the scene after a collision in which a 66-year-old Southampton woman was seriously injured Saturday night.
The victim was identified as Maureen Dean. She was taken by the Suffolk County police aviation unit to Stony Brook Hospital where she was listed in critical condition.
Southampton Town police said the crash occurred shortly before 6:30 p.m. Saturday at Montauk Highway and West Gate Road in Southampton.
Dean was driving her 1995 Saturn sedan eastbound on Montauk Highway near West Gate Road when her vehicle was struck from behind by a 2004 Honda Civic, police said. The impact caused Dean's car to leave the roadway and strike a utility pole.
New York State Police, a Suffolk County sheriff canine unit, and Southampton Town police searched the area for the male driver of the Civic without success.
Anyone with information on the crash is asked to contact Southampton Town Police detectives at 631-702-2230.
