Services for NY soldier killed in Iraq

The viewing for Haiming Hsia, the latest New York area soldier killed in Iraq, will be held this week in Chinatown, where he had been a lifelong resident.

Hsia, 37, was killed Tuesday by an explosion while on patrol in Ramadi with the Army's First Armored Division.

Viewings will be held at Vanella's Funeral Chapel, 29 Madison St. from 2 to 9 p.m. Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. Services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday at St. James Church, 32 James St.

Hsia has a son, Brandon Alexander Hsia, 3, with his wife, Yanisse Oliveras, 28, of Newark. Hsia is the only child of Nelida Hsia, 66, and Ting Fang Hsia, 78, of Chinatown.

He was on his second tour of duty in Iraq when he was killed, family members said.

Hsia worked as a security guard in several Manhattan clothing stores and studied psychology at the Borough of Manhattan Community College before joining the Army in 2002.
