Mike Myers

SNL years: 1988-95
The case for him: Did anybody ever look like they were having more fun on SNL than Myers? All his characters, from Simon to Linda Richman to Wayne Campbell to Lothar of the Hill People had an exuberance and joy. Perhaps that's why he created the dark, hysterical Dieter of "Sprockets."
Chevy Chase

SNL years: 1975-76
The case for him: Chase left after the first brilliant season, which may have been a mistake. But could he have had the best season in SNL history? Quite possibly. He made the Weekend Update desk famous with his "I'm Chevy Chase and you're not" opener, and also may have contributed to the outcome of the 1976 presidential election with his portrayal of President Ford as a bumbling, stumbling buffoon.
