New York Gov. David A. Paterson had expected to spend Sunday focusing on his role as grand marshal of the 40th Annual African American Day Parade in Harlem.

Instead, the governor spent the event dogged by media and doubtful New Yorkers as he tried to rebut reports that President Barack Obama had asked that he not seek re-election in the 2010 gubernatorial race.
