Pilot dies in small plane crash in Adirondacks, authorities say
WEBB, N.Y. - State police say the 76-year-old pilot of a small plane was killed in a crash in a remote area of the Adirondacks.
Police say a single-engine plane piloted by Schiele Brewer of Sherrill crashed Thursday into the Stillwater Reservoir in Herkimer County, about 60 miles north of Utica.
The plane was found in about seven feet of water with Brewer dead inside. No other injuries were reported.
His daughter Anne Brewer told the Adirondack Daily Enterprise that her father was practicing landings with a new plane that was equipped with pontoons to land on the reservoir, which is near a family camp.
Police say the plane took off from Boonville in neighboring Oneida County on Thursday morning.
The cause of the crash is being investigated.
