Senate sets new controls on staff hiring
ALBANY - New York State Senate Democrats Thursday announced new controls on staff hiring in the wake of Sen. Pedro Espada Jr.'s son briefly holding a $120,000-a-year job.
A three-member panel will "review and approve all personnel changes to the central staff," said Selvena N. Brooks, a spokeswoman for Democratic chief John Sampson of Brooklyn. Sampson approved the Espada hiring.
