State Senate rejects legalizing gay marriage

ALBANY - The State Senate today defeated a bill legalizing same-sex marriage.
In 38-24 vote, senators blocked New York from becoming the sixth state to recognize unions between two men or two women. Gay marriage is legal in Connecticut, Iowa, Massachusetts, New Hampshire and Vermont - only the last two did so by legislation.
