Thirty years ago this month, more than 15,000 people converged on Wading River on a rain-soaked Sunday to protest what was to be Long Island's first nuclear power plant under construction on the shores of Long Island Sound. With more than a billion dollars already spent on the nearby Shoreham plant, their efforts to stop the plant from ever operating appeared to be a long shot at best.
