Mark Teixeira underwent a second MRI on his injured right leg, with the test showing "the extent of the bone bruise is more than we thought," manager Joe Girardi said yesterday.

He also noted the veteran will be on crutches for at least "a few days."

The positive news is that the MRI did not show a fracture, but that was all on the good-news front as it is clear Teixeira is out indefinitely. When asked for a timetable for the 35-year-old's return, Girardi could not offer one.

General manager Brian Cashman said Teixeira is "weeks" away from returning.

"I think it's going to be a couple weeks," Cashman said yesterday. "I talked to Chris Ahmad. He ran him through all the tests again -- CT scan, X-ray. I assume an MRI as well. I think all three. His bone bruise has not healed at all."
