Luna Park evacuated as Astro Tower sways in the wind
Firefighters and city buildings inspectors had to evacuate Luna Park Tuesday afternoon after the Astro Tower began swaying with the wind.
The ride has been defunct for years and no one was on it when it started to move around 4:30 p.m. a FDNY spokesman said. Parts of the Coney Island boardward were also evacuated as a precaution as inspectors from the city's Buildings Department.
A spokesman for the Buildings Department said crews were still inspecting the tower as of 6:30 p.m.
