Areas of fog expected for eastern Long Island

Areas of fog will continue across eastern Long Island Thursday morning, with visibilities potentially less than a mile, the National Weather Service said.

"Locally dense fog is also possible over the next few hours," the weather service said in a special weather statement. "Motorists should drive with extra caution and be prepared for rapidly changing visibilities."

Areas of fog hovered over Suffolk County during the morning commute, the National Weather Service said earlier Thursday.

The service said there is about a 20 percent to 30 percent chance of rain across most of Long Island for Thursday, with daily highs in the low to mid 40s.
