Ruby Asian Fusion, Woodbury: First bites

Ancient wisdom has it that the antidote to a chilly day is a big bowl of noodle soup. So, feeling the force of the wind and finding myself in the vicinity of the new Ruby Asian Fusion & Sushi Bar, I stopped in for a meal-sized bowl of roast duck and egg noodle soup.
It turned out to be ample, savory and loaded with big pieces of beautifully burnished bone-in roasted duck with subtle five-spice undertones. Lots of fresh, pliant egg noodles and enoki mushrooms. Wish there had been more bok choy, though, and no broccoli, a vegetable that seemed out of place in that bowl. And while the soup was moderately hot, I wanted it to be steaming. Even so, I’d order it again — sans broccoli, piping hot — in a heartbeat.
From the sushi bar, I got a salmon-avocado roll. The fish was fresh, nicely cut, yet a tad too cold. Same for the rice. Again, something easily remedied.
Ruby Asian Fusion & Sushi Bar is at 8285 Jericho Tpke., Woodbury, 516-224-4660.
