Heavy rain misses LI, but forecast still wet

A potential for light rainfall Thursday night into Friday still exists, but Long Island will not see the heavy rainfall that had been predicted earlier, forecasters said.
A low-pressure system off the mid-Atlantic battled with a high to the north, which was behind some of the dryer air over the region Thursday, according to the National Weather Service.
The weather service had issued a coastal flood advisory for the southern and northern shores of Nassau County at high tide Thursday but that did not happen.
Still, the weather is causing issues at LaGuardia Airport, where arrivals were being delayed an average of 1 hour and 15 minutes, according to the Federal Aviation Administration.
There could be scattered showers Friday night, said David Stark, meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Upton. And there remains a chance of rain Saturday in the morning. Sunday is expected to remain clear.
