With intermittent rain forecast for much of the week, cloudy skies with a 30 percent chance of scattered and isolated showers are expected for rest of the day, meteorologists said.
Indeed, low ceilings were affecting air travel Tuesday with average 40 minute arrival delays at LaGuardia Airport, where some departure delays were also occurring, the Federal Aviation Administration said.
The National Weather Service also reported a moderate risk of rip currents Tuesday along ocean beaches from Smith Point east.
As for Wednesday afternoon into Thursday, look for a similar story -- about a 20 percent chance of scattered and isolated showers, said Lauren Nash, weather service meteorologist based in Upton.
The story shifts on Thursday when there's about a 60 percent chance of widespread showers in the afternoon through Friday, which also could see widespread light rain, with some moderate to heavy patches, Nash said.
Daily temperatures are expected to be in the low to mid 70s, with rain and high humidity making for muggy days and nights, the service said.
But then the words "partly" and "mostly sunny" enter the picture for Saturday and Sunday when temperatures are expected in the upper 70s, the weather service said.
