Chicago teachers strike

Chicago's public school teachers went on strike for the first time in 25 years on Sept. 10, 2012, amid a monthslong contract dispute with Mayor Rahm Emanuel. The walkout shut down the nation's third-largest school district, with more than 350,000 students. On Sept. 18, the Chicago Teachers Union announced that members voted to end the strike.
