A two-car collision Monday morning on Route 22 in North Castle left one driver dead and the other hospitalized, police said.

North Castle Police did not release the identity of either driver involved in the crash. A department spokesman did not return calls seeking comment.

The crash occurred about 7:53 a.m., about a quarter mile north of Rye Lake Bridge, police said. The two drivers were the only occupants in the cars, police said.

The Armonk Ambulance Corps and the Armonk Fire Department responded to the scene of the crash, and both drivers were rushed to Westchester Medical Center in Valhalla.

It was there that one of the drivers was pronounced dead, authorities said. The condition of the other driver could not be obtained.

North Castle police said the crash is under investigation by the department's accident investigation unit and its detective division.
