NY boy who survived crash told of mom's death

NEW YORK - NEW YORK (AP) — The Long Island boy who survived the car crash that killed his mother, sister and three cousins has been told of their deaths.

Private investigator Thomas Ruskin also says the boy's surviving relatives and his dead cousins' parents are in contact with each other almost daily despite reports they weren't speaking.

The boy's mother, Diane Schuler, was driving the wrong way on a New York highway when she collided head-on with an SUV. Three men in that vehicle died.

Bryan Schuler, who's 5, is recovering from head injuries at a Queens hospital.

He's the lone survivor of the July 26 crash.

Police say Schuler was drunk and high on marijuana. Her widower disputes that.
