May 2008 cops of the month

The 2nd Precinct has selected Police Officer Jason Paglino and Police Officer Timothy Zorn as their "Cops of the Month." Officer Paglino has been with the department since December 1993 and has received 10 Department Recognitions, seven Command Recognitions, one Exceptional Meritorious Award, one Cop of the Year Award, two Cop of the Month Awards and four Letters of Appreciation. Officer Zorn has been with the Department since May 1995 and has received seven Department Recognitions, nine Command Recognitions, one Bravery Silver Medal, one Cop of the Month Award and one Letter of Appreciation.

On 6/20/07, Police Officers Zorn and Paglino became aware that two unknown males in a blue Hyundai accosted two females on Westminster Road, Dix Hills, and attempted to steal their pocketbooks. The vehicle registration returned to the Dix Hills area. The following day, Zorn and Paglino, heard a notification broadcast by the 4th Precinct regarding a Grand Larceny in Commack, in which 2 males in a blue vehicle stole a purse. Believing the incidents may be related, the officers began patrolling Deer Park Avenue in hopes of encountering the suspect vehicle. Shortly thereafter, Officers Paglino and Zorn located the vehicle, which was occupied by two males. The officers observed a social security card in the vehicle, with a female's name on it. They checked with the 4th Precinct and determined that the social security card belonged to the victim of the Grand Larceny. Both subjects were arrested and transported to the 4th Precinct, where they confessed to both crimes.
