Officers Kurt Lemke and William Meaney

OCTOBER 2007 The Second Precinct has selected Police Officers Kurt Lemke and William Meaney its "Cops of the Month" for their quick action, which led to the apprehension of two dangerous individuals.

On Dec. 31, 2006, Officers Lemke and Meaney were assigned to uniform patrol in the Second Precinct when a robbery occurred at a fast-food restaurant on Route 110 in Melville. Two males, one armed with a knife, had accosted two victims and fled in a Nissan Sentra. One victim was physically assaulted and robbed of a gold chain. The other victim was threatened with a knife but was otherwise unharmed. The officers began searching for the suspects' vehicle and located it about 30 minutes later with only one suspect inside. He was positively identified by one of the victims and was charged with second-degree menacing.

Officer Lemke has been with the department since September 1992 and has received 11 Department Recognitions, three Command Recognitions, three Cop of the Month Awards and a Letter of Appreciation. Officer Meaney has been with the department since October 1991 and has received eight Department Recognitions, two Command Recognitions, two Cop of the Month Awards and four Letters of Appreciation.
