Suffolk Officers Kevin Quinn and Markus Rivera

SEPTEMBER 2007 The Second Precinct has selected Police Officers Kevin Quinn and Markus Rivera its "Cops of the Month" for their diligent work, which led to the detection and apprehension of two suspects and the return of stolen property.

On March 21, 2007, Officers Quinn and Rivera were on patrol in the Huntington Station area when they responded to a radio call about the theft of a handheld GPS unit from a car at a shopping area. They escorted a witness around the area to search for the suspects and/or their vehicle. A short time later the vehicle was spotted and the witness identified two men inside as the pair he had seen break into a car and steal a GPS unit. The stolen property was recovered. A follow-up investigation revealed that the two men had come to Long Island from New York City with the specific intention of stealing GPS units. One of the suspects was also wanted by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement on an outstanding immigration warrant.

Officer Quinn has been with the department since October 2003 and has received a Command Recognition, a Cop of the Month Award and three Letters of Appreciation. Officer Rivera has been with the Department since November 2002 and has received two Command Recognitions, a Cop of the Month Award and a Letter of Appreciation.
