NY teen accidentally shot by friend

ELMONT, N.Y. - ELMONT, N.Y. (AP) — Authorities say a 14-year-old faces a reckless endangerment charge after accidentally wounding a friend with a semi-automatic weapon.

The 15-year-old victim was admitted to Nassau County Medical Center with a leg wound following the incident Thursday in Elmont.

The defendant will be arraigned in Family Court on Aug. 20.

Nassau County police say the victim invited three friends to his uncle's home, where they passed around the gun. The victim was trying to take it away when it discharged.

Police say they also found a defaced AK-47 assault rifle in a vehicle parked in the driveway.

The investigation continues.
