What’s it about: A robot charged with cleaning up the garbage on a now-uninhabited planet Earth is projected into deep space on a life-changing odyssey.

What’s the big deal: The hottest team in American animation encounters its most daunting challenge: Selling a hero who doesn’t talk so much as beep and rattle expressively. If this does even half the aggregate business of “The Incredibles,” “Cars” and “Ratatouille,” we will believe Pixar can in fact change the course of mighty rivers and bend steel with its bare . . . well, you get the idea.
