NORTH BRUNSWICK - Police say a 22-year-old Somerset man was killed after a driver trying to evade police crashed into three cars waiting at a red light in North Brunswick.
The incident occurred Saturday night at the intersection of Jersey Avenue and Huron Road.
The Middlesex County Prosecutor's Office says 28-year-old Shareef Holder, of New Brunswick, initially stopped when an officer pulled him over for a hit-and-run accident, but then sped off. Authorities say Holder was not being pursued and that the fatal crash had already happened by the time officers arrived on the scene minutes later.

Officials say the Honda Civic of 22-year-old victim Luis Rodriguez was practically crushed by Holder's Mercedes SUV. Two other vehicles were also hit at the intersection, but police say the occupants were not hurt.
Holder has been jailed before and had his license suspended twice by the courts for cases involving drug possession.
He has been charged with aggravated manslaughter, vehicular homicide and eluding police; and is being held on $1 million bail at Middlesex County jail.
