NEW WINDSOR - A massive emergency response drill is under way in Orange County.

Global Companies Inc. on Route 9-W in New Windsor is hosting an oil spill and train derailment drill.

Hazmat crews, local fire departments, the Coast Guard and the Department of Environmental Conservation are on hand for the training exercise, which includes a simulated spill along a railway and in the Hudson River. "There's going to be an increased amount of oil transferred down the rails and river. There hasn't been a drill along the rails, down the river in a very long time," says DEC Sgt. John O'Mara.

Global Companies Inc. is a petroleum shipping and distribution center for gasoline and heating oil. A spokesperson for the company says similar drills are done on a regular basis to maintain licensing.
