Elizabeth Banks insults moms of one everywhere
Actress Elizabeth Banks stuck a big, fat, baby shoe in her mouth when she said in a recent People interview that now she’s officially a mom because now she has two kids.
She offended and disgusted moms everywhere who only have one child, including yours truly.
Banks, star of “Hunger Games,” had a second son, Magnus, in November. She has an older son, Felix, who's 22 months old. “Two is very different from one. When you have one kid, you feel like you can jet set around and you can throw him on the hip and you get your life done,” Banks told the magazine. “You don’t realize how easy one is until you have two. Now I’m really a mom.”
I get that Banks probably found it easier to operate with one child than with two, just like moms with three children face more challenges than moms who have two. In fact, her quote is understandable when she compares the way two kids multiply the juggling exponentially.
But that last sentence -- “Now I’m really a mom” -- please. Am I less of a mom because I only had to get up in the middle of the night with one sick child? Am I less of a mom because I only had to prepare chicken nuggets and macaroni and cheese for one toddler? Am I less of a mom because I only have to work and save to pay one college tuition? I believe my teenage son would say no.
Think before you speak, Ms. Banks. Or better yet, pick up one of your kids pacifiers and stick it in your mouth instead. Unless, of course, you're opening your mouth to apologize for your gaffe.
