Before Donald Trump took the stage in Bethpage Wednesday night, Suffolk County Republican chairman John Jay LaValle appeared before the enormous crowd and announced his endorsement of the GOP presidential front-runner.
Behind the scenes, LaValle had just gotten a commitment that Trump would be a special guest at the Suffolk GOP’s “pre-New York” primary fundraiser. The $100-a-head event on April 14 is at The Emporium in Patchogue, a live-music venue that can accommodate close to 1,500 people. It’s a bargain.LettersYour election reflections2016 election2016 Voters Guide: What to know More coverageOpinion and analysis about the 2016 presidential campaign
Trump, who already had promised to attend the state GOP’s $1,000-a-ticket gala the same night in Manhattan, will helicopter between the two events.
But was Nassau GOP chair Joe Mondello, who endorsed Trump more than three weeks ago, left out in the cold? Mondello tells The Point that Trump accepted his invitation weeks ago to headline the Nassau Republicans’ annual Patriots' Reception on May 11 at Crest Hollow Country Club. That post-primary gala will cost $200 a head, and Mondello hopes to double last year’s turnout to about 3,000 now that Trump will be the star attraction.
Still not sure where to go? It will cost you another $300 to cover all your bets. Suffolk County Democrats are charging that much for Monday’s dinner at Villa Lombardi's in Holbrook featuring Hillary Clinton. And the bracciole there is very good.
