Though Allan Richter's prayers for peace in the Middle East are inspirational, they will require more than a little realpolitik ["Lighting a path in the Mideast," Opinion, Dec. 19]. Judas' brother and successor, Simon, threw all of the Syrian Greeks out of the region in 142 BC, establishing an independent Jewish state.
Today, Israel ought to emulate Judas Maccabaeus...
