46 -- That's the percentage of U.S. food poisoning cases linked to leafy green vegetables like spinach and lettuce, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. No other kind of food was responsible for so many illnesses, about 22 million out of the 48 million cases each year. It's the Food and Drug Administration's job to get those numbers down, and after years of delay, it finally released proposals recently on how to do that. Until new rules are in place to eradicate contamination, wash your vegetables well, especially the leafy ones.
