BUCHANAN - The Indian Point Energy Center tested its emergency siren system earlier today.

The sirens near the nuclear plant sounded for four minutes just after 10:30 a.m. and could be heard in Westchester, Rockland, Putnam, and Orange counties.

Officials say all 172 of the sirens sounded successfully.

The plant generates as much as 30 percent of the electricity used in New York City and Westchester County.
