Letter: GOP could win with compromise

Congressional Republicans possess a golden opportunity to appear as American heroes.
In the recent election, voters rebelled against their obstructive tactics. We must not now be subjected to “fiscal cliff" trauma and credit downgrades.
The unique events of the past decade necessitate a broad debt reduction plan that should include some increase of tax rates on high earners. Republicans should take the spotlight and walk away from Grover Norquist and his threats to obliterate their careers.
