The Village of North Hills is considering a law that would fine residents who don't clean up after dogs ["Here's the scoop," News, July 15].

But what about cats? If you have a garden or flower beds, then you have had the pleasure of cats using them as a litter box. But never mind the health issues associated with cat feces; cats are a killer of wildlife.

If you call animal control officials about a dog on the loose, they send someone out to get it right away. But tell them a cat is roaming around, and they say it's policy not to pick up stray cats. You want to make dog owners more responsible, fine, but don't let cat owners off the hook.
