Send Newsday haiku
to celebrate this verse form
and to share your views.
Yes, it's that time of year again. National Haiku Day is almost upon us. Newsday would like to invite our readers to submit original haiku for possible publication on Dec. 21, National Haiku Day.
To review what you learned in grade school, haiku is a style of Japanese poetry written in three lines: five syllables in the first line, seven in the second line, and five again in the final line.
Please submit haiku on the issues of the day to letters@newsday.com and type "haiku" in the subject line. Or mail submissions to Haiku Letters, Newsday, 235 Pinelawn Road, Melville, NY 11747.
Here are a couple from Newsday's editorial staff from last year, to start your thinking.
