I am at a loss to understand the boycott of the Academy Awards by some actors because of the lack of diversity in nominations [“Smith to skip Oscars,” News, Jan. 22].
Have we become so politically correct that we must give awards simply because of race? Should we demand more diversity on sports teams, such as basketball, even if the players who are white, Asian or Hispanic do not play as well?
If the performance or film was the best, the actor or the film should be nominated — but certainly not because of diversity.
