Jake White was one of the greatest, most sincere and highly spirited men I have ever had the pleasure to meet ["Jack White, 1944-2015: Nassau sports' beloved maven," Sports, April 21]. Every time we saw each other, he greeted me with the warmest hello and the biggest, most heartfelt smile. He could lift anyone's spirit within seconds.

He is the type of man I want to be when I grow older. I was always so excited to speak to Jake about the last Saturday's football game on Monday afternoons in the locker room. He would tell me our team's statistics, my individual statistics, and then give me a compliment for my performance even when I didn't deserve one.

He has been an advocate of mine since my freshman year, and I do not know where I would be today without his selfless words and actions toward me. I would do anything to be able to thank him one last time from the bottom of my heart.
