For many years, I took the Nassau Inter-County Express N73 and N74 lines through Hicksville, Levittown and Wantagh. Now, as a result of the NICE bus route eliminations, the nearest stop from my home is on Hempstead Turnpike in Levittown, almost two miles away [“NICE urged to restore 11 cut routes,” News, Jan. 20].
I’m 66 and work full time, and I now have no option except to walk two miles each way to and from the bus stop, or pay $20 in taxi fares on top of bus fares.
Bus service should be provided to everyone in Nassau County, not just where NICE thinks it can make money. So many of the people who depend on bus service are elderly, disabled or poor.
