The Jan. 19 editorial, “Troubling gap at high schools” — about how only 54 percent of Long Island seniors pass tests indicating college readiness, but 89 percent graduate — is excellent, informative and disturbing.
In spite of the educational system’s failures, students, teachers, parents and the teachers union cannot offer a reason for the failure or a solution. They seem to be united in their opposition to Common Core, but have no other program. Meanwhile, our school taxes continue to rise.
Keep up the good work. Perhaps with constant exposure, those who control the system for their own narrow financial benefit will be replaced by people who are capable and public spirited.
